Be Aware Dont Want To Be Dead Soon

Investigating in science     Here is a link to our photos

Build on prior experiences, working together to share and examine their own and others’ knowledge.
WALT ask questions, find evidence, and carry out  investigations to develop simple explanations.

1. Our purpose:

We want to know what will happen if you leave  an egg in a sugary drink and leave it for a few days. Also, we want to know if this reaction will happen to our teeth if you drink sugary drinks.
2. Hypothesis:

We predict that it might go rubbery and slimy.
It could go soft and it might go bouncy and a different color. We wonder what will happen if you put a drink and a egg together and leave it for a few days? Will the drink change the egg’s appearance? Well, we don't know, let's see and find out.
2. Materials:

200 ml of...

◾ bull drink
◾ orange juice
◾ sparkling water
◾ coke
◾ coke zero
◾ red bull
◾ E 2 drink
◾ milk
◾ pH testing kit and scale
◾ 9 eggs and 9 containers

3. Procedure

Wednesday 16-11-17
Today we tried the experiment. So the first thing we did is…

  1. We had 7 eggs and then put an egg in one of each container
  2. Then we put a sugary drink in the container
  3. After that we got a pH strip then left it in the container with the drink for one to ten minutes.
  4. Then we looked if it changed color after one to ten minutes
  5. After all of that we took out the pH strip then took the containers and put them on the window sill
  6. To finish off we are going to leave it for a few days and wait to see on what's going to happen.

Monday 20-11-17

Today we will closely observe the eggs on the outer layer then crack the eggshell to see if there's any changes in the inside of the egg. It might be the same or it could be different.
4. Observation:

Wednesday 16-11-17
On a Wednesday, the day we did the experiment, the red bull and the red bull zero had a reaction. It made the egg shell come off. On a Thursday, the juice had a reaction too, and the shell was peeling off as well. Also, the E 2 drink made the egg a green color but what happen to the coke and coke zero was still the same but it made some kind of marks on it. We thought it looked like it was sun burnt.
Monday 20-11-17
Today we noticed that all the drinks were different. The sparkling water had a foggy layer of water on the top, but nothing really happened to the egg. The egg made the milk like a thickened yogurt. It looked disgusting though. The egg also didn’t make a change. Then we looked at the still water, E 2, red bull and red bull zero, coke and coke zero and the orange juice, it all made a reaction except the still water. They all peeled the egg shell off but the red bull and the red bull zero changed the egg to a rotten egg.

So after looking at the eggs we all went outside with the eggs and looked at them again, we poured the liquid out and then cracked the egg. What egg was delicate and bendy? Well, the bendy and brittle egg was the red bull and orange juice. It made the egg shell go brittle which means like soft and easy to crack. Next, what had happened to the eggs leftover, did it go hard? Well it did, it was a bit hard to crack with the other eggs. They made some kind of hardness to it, a bit. Our class tried to crack the eggs, but in a few moments they automatically cracked. Also we investigated that the insides of the egg were all the same. Crazy, right? It could be around the acidity of the drinks that made this kind of reaction to the eggs.
5. Conclusion:

We learnt that when putting an egg and a sugary drink together and leave it for a few days, it will make a chemical reaction to the egg. We think there is going to be a reaction because in the drink there is acid in it which makes the egg have a reaction. We saw one egg which was the E 2 drink and the egg had a reaction and it turned green and with the others they had a reaction and the eggs  turned different color to. We also learnt about the pH test, it made the strip go a different color. Why? Because there is acid in the sugary drinks.
